There are different types of retreats that vary in length and other parameters. More importantly, some of them are more difficult and expensive to organize. With teambuilding being the ultimate goal, it is necessary to remember about the cost-effectiveness of different retreats. There should be a fine balance in this regard, as well. The employees will not appreciate a low-budget, effortless retreat, considering it a sign of the lack of interest on behalf of the management. Expensive activities are devoid of such risks, but it is easy to have unnecessary costs whereas a thoughtful but less costly retreat would be just as efficient. For example, a companywide fishing trip with the workers own equipment and food is a lazy attempt. However, a luxurious boat ride in the ocean with full elite service package is a highly inefficient use of funds. The optimal solution lies in between these two extremes, becoming a type of retreat in which organizers manage their costs without making the activities unappealing (Dyer & Dyer, 2019). Further research into this direction will provide the project with a better, more detailed characterization of cost-efficient and inefficient retreats.
