MBNQA
EFQM was initially designed as a European equivalent of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA). Therefore, it would be the only natural to suppose that TNT can meet the criteria for MBNQA at a similar extent; it meets the criteria for EFQM. MBNQA has seven principles, including leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement, analysis, and knowledge measurement, human resource focus, process management, and results. These criteria are based on the TQM model, which are very close to the EFQM approach. While the criteria seem comparable, there is a significant difference in their weight. MBNQA model puts the most considerable emphasis (450 points out of 1000) on the results. Considering this fact, TNT Express would score higher utilising MBNQA criteria, as the company achieved outstanding results. Product and process, customer-focused, leadership and governance, workforce-focused, and financial, market, and strategy results are phenomenal in comparison with the time before the adoption of the EFQM model.
Deming Prize
Deming prize has three central criteria, which are the establishment of business objectives and strategies and top management’s leadership, suitable utilisation and implementation of TQM, and effects of TQM. EFQM differs from TQM since it does not emphasise fact-based decision-making and communications. Therefore, it would be natural to suppose that if measured, these two aspects would become vulnerabilities of TNT Express. Thus, TNT’s score would be much lower when applying Deming Prize criteria in comparison with EFQM criteria.
