Every workplace has a particular culture that is unique to that organization. The current culture for medical device manufacturing can be one of stress and contention. Conflicts can arise easily, causing deeper problems for the structure of the work environment while affecting employee relationships. The tension among employees has increased over the past few years; it seems that as the economy suffers, the culture at work becomes more tense and competitive. These times of financial insecurity can cause damaging competition between employees. Everyone wants to keep their job, and they may take any means necessary to ensure their job security. Times of uncertainty can cause a fight response that is used to ensure personal security. The economy will likely be a large determining factor of the future culture at work.

The attitudes and behaviors of a workplace have many facets. It is the role of management to place employees in the best job for the workplace, their individual personalities, and abilities, as well as the group dynamic. People are motivated by their own personal drives; biological needs must be met. People will fight for their ability to survive. Management must learn to motivate and reward employees in order to keep up morale; those rewards do not have to be sole of a monetary nature. Job security today is as important, if not more important, than pay scale. Ensuring that everyone feels secure and equal will add strength and unity among employees. It is a goof business for all involved when employees trust each other and are able to work together.

Culture and morality can change with the economy. This is a time when people feel they have no control over their finances; morality can easily be set aside or altered for what is perceived as survival needs.
