Supply chain digital transformation is a flexible, customer-driven, and efficient technique used to develop various return organizational forms and identify the most suitable approaches with emerging technologies and data analytics. Digital supply chain management (DSCM) has extensive advantages, but many companies experience a hard time in its implementation. Globally, the Covid-19 disrupted supply chain operations in 2020. Consequently, consumers have had to survive with multiple product shortages, which increased pressure on the supply chains and digital transformation. Different experts provide various suggestions to boost resilience with supply chain digitization following company failures to implement the strategy. York Mart, a retail conglomerate, wishes to extend its current digital transformation capabilities using supply chain analytics, simulation, and optimization technologies. As a Digix senior consultant, I would suggest several vital features to help York Mart secure their digital transformation.
Since York Mart has already implemented an innovative and state-of-the-art Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system which manages information across its supply chain, it eases the entire process. First, the company’s board must understand the needs and benefits of the entire supply chain digitization process. Using this step as a first approach in the entire design helps identify the crucial barrier in the process, propose an effectively engineered structural model, and develop a specific roadmap to achieve the prospects. In this particular case, we apply a singular approach to develop a hierarchical structural model which shows the mutual dependence among the three features in supply chain digitization; simulation, optimization, and analytics.
From an analysis of the three features, we derive that digitalization helps shift most organizational operations to more efficient ones, including creating real-time connections, digitalized scenarios, and collaborations rather than manual, automated simulations and continuous rather than cadence event planning and decision making. The results demonstrate that three features are vital for any given organization to implement the supply chain digitization process effectively. The three features help break the most significant barriers to the digital transformation of the supply chain.
From this analysis, it is clear that the general goal in York Mart strategy during the implementation of digital transformation. Optimization is the key to boosting the business model with the engineered digital transformation. We see this concept implemented every day, from big brands to small physical stores; the vast majority of retailers have added online shops or galleries to their services. The majority of successful businesses have added delivery services to their offerings. The entire process suggests some managerial implications to overcome the barriers which hinder the implementation of digital transformation of the supply chain.
