The organization that best captures my interest is Amnesty International which has a membership of around 2.2 million members located in around 150 countries. The International issues which are addressed by Amnesty International which concerns me in a deep way include: in the year 2007, Amnesty International started a global petition which called for the Government of Somalia to protect the innocent citizens especially the civilians in Darfur and even managed to launch a CD which feature around 30 musicians so that they could mobilize the group to make some noise.

The campaigns were aimed at saving Darfur. Following their move, the UN general Assembly accepted to adopt the Declaration which sought to uphold the rights of the indigenous people. The Amnesty international also called for the adoption of L29 which called for the global moratorium on executions in Darfur. The other issue which was addressed by Amnesty International which is of big concern to me is when in the year 2003, Amnesty International together with other organizations like the International Network on Small Arms (IANSA) launched the Global Control Arms campaign so that to prevent the proliferation of the small arms all over the world.

The personal issues which ignited my particular interest in the issues are that I was saddened by the number of lives which had been lost in Darfur since the start of the civil war in this region. I personally felt disturbed at how the civilians who were very innocent could not be protected from the militia who mercilessly killed them. The death toll of over 300,000 people including 19,500 civilians is unwarranted and therefore I applauded the decision by Amnesty International’s campaigns to save Darfur and the entire Sudan from further destruction.

The Global Control Arms campaign by Amnesty International and other organizations ignited my particular interest since a lot of lives have been lost all over the world just because of the proliferation of the small and illicit arms all over the world. In most cases, very few organizations and individuals managed so speak out against this and so I was personally ignited when these organizations stood up and encouraged the prevention of the small illicit arms from circulating in the entire world.

These issues move from my community and to the reach of Amnesty International because Amnesty international always works together with thousands of other organizations in different countries to lobby the governments of the whole world to create an international system of justice which will reinforce and complement the national justice systems. These will assist in minimizing human rights violations. This will also help in supporting the conflict reconciliations. In addition, it will help the organization be effective in its responsibility of ensuring crimes against humanity are punished.

I would like to see is a situation whereby the perpetrators of war in each and every country are brought before courts of law and justice meted on them as fast as possible. There have been cases in lots of countries whereby the victims of violence are not given justice just because the cases drag in the courts and take a lot time before they are concluded and the culprits netted.
