Any business intending to have a clear direction of growth and competitiveness needs to dream about where it should be in several years. An organization’s vision statement defines a company’s aspirations and goals. It is instrumental since it keeps a firm on track and from wavering off bearing towards set goals. Such companies as Amazon, Microsoft, and Tesla provide good examples of organizational vision statements.

Amazon’s vision is to “be the most customer-centric company on earth, which focuses on building a place where individuals can find and discover all they might want to purchase online” (“How to write mission and vision statements for B2B. And why it matters”, n.d.). Microsoft’s vision is to “empower people through great software anytime, anyplace, and on any device” (“How to write mission and vision statements for B2B. And why it matters”, n.d.). Whereas that of Tesla is to “accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy” (“How to write the mission and vision statements for B2B. And why it matters”, n.d.). These vision statements clearly define the purposes as well as the directions of the three organizations. They are simple, easy to remember, and do not require an explanation for a person to understand. However, they do not fit all the four organizational vision components, including purpose, image, values, and goals (Aiyegbayo, 2010). Each vision statement outlines the corporation’s reason for existence and presents pictures of their desired future and targets that guide all stakeholders’ energy and keep them focused on achieving the dream. Nevertheless, they do not indicate standards of behavior and operations expected to facilitate the successful accomplishment of the vision.

The vision statements may affect strategic decision-makers choices since any verdict must be aligned with them. Such factors as competition in the global market and other challenges require tactical resolutions, which involve assessing various available options. The companies’ vision statement dictates the actions to be taken by the managers. For instance, Tesla faces stiff rivalry from organizations that manufacture gasoline-powered vehicles. The firm cannot implement any decision that would deviate it from the use of sustainable energy.
