The Case Summary

International Satellite Images (ISI) is one of three leading organizations in the United States controlling the satellite imaging industry. ISI has a project aimed at creating a satellite capable of imaging the world with a resolution of up to 1 meter. The company intends to sign a contract with a Japanese company called Higashi Trading Company (HTC), but it has met a serious challenge regarding the launching date. Due to problems with the thermal stabilizer development, the project should be delayed for 18 months. The president of ISI, Fred Ballard, suggests holding the actual date of releasing the satellite to meet investors’ expectations. In contrast, The Vice President of Marketing – Jim Willis, disagrees, insisting that such an action will be regarded as a violation of the code of ethics. As a result, revealing the different launching dates might damage the company’s reputation and lead to loss of contracts.
